AT THE END OF MY ROPE

They found me a place. It is clean, but again I am met with a xenophobia I haven’t experience in Berlin or in Rome. When I arrived at this woman’s house she told me to leave my bags outside until she talks with me to decide if she will allow me to stay. Thankfully I was “allowed” to stay and moved in. She then handed me a pamphlet with the house rules. Now most are normal like, don’t eat in your room, turn the lights off behind you, etc. BUT two rules stood out to me: We have to vacate the house everyday and cannot be home before it is time for dinner, and, no outside foods or use of the kitchen.

I thought this was to be my home away from how, how can I not use the fridge? I’m not asking to cook a whole Christmas dinner, I just want to store a water bottle for fresh cold water and some yogurts. But the answer was  a hard no because it broke her “biggest” rule. I just can’t win here, and the school doesn’t even care. When I talk to the Toronto office they say that the Nice office will not communicate with them either. Nice EF just doesn’t care. I posted my experience on Tiktok and it got a lot of views and may future Nice student’s reached out to me to ask my advise if they should still go. One girl I am still in contact with went I was placed in a moldy home with two seniors and the doors wouldn’t lock. It was so bad that she chose to leave early too. I don’t understand how they operate, always placing the blame on the students and never taking responsibility for what they themselves are doing. I have been so vocal about how much I love my EF experience but with Nice I cannot. EF Nice needs to be shut down, it is horrible.
