MILAN WAS A BLAST!

Dear Caroline,

I made it to Milan!

The flight was actually quite enjoyable. Took the train to the city Center. Had a late lunch with my friend and relaxed in my hotel the evening. Had a massive Mamie style coughing fit and thought I was gonna die. But Mamie assured me that was not the case. Solo travel is hard especially when your body betrays you, and you’re like me scared of everything thing especially if it has to do with my body. The worst part about travelling alone is when something goes wrong or you’re scared there really isn’t anyone to help you. Or so it feels like that. I don’t know if you’ve ever been lost in a mall as a young kid but it kind of feels like that. The world feels so big and you can’t see you parents and everything is just so overwhelming. But I’m happy to report I have survived every “episode” I’ve experienced, and I keep getting better at handling them. I watched an Italian game show. Weird game show. Kind of like the Asian game shows. I’m surprised by how much I understood of it.  All my Italian is coming back. I went to the grocery store and got my yogurts for my breakfast and some snacks that Caspianne requested for her wedding.

Saturday was our big touristy day. We spent the whole afternoon by the Duomo di Milano, there is also a massive outdoor mall Vittorio Emanuele with a whole bunch of designer stores. I felt so fancy, and so did Chloe, she really had a blast! She went to every store, she even bought herself a Ferrari!

Ruth and I went looking for some outfits for Caspianne’s wedding. Unfortunately we didn’t find anything as right now all the stores are in back to school fashions. I’m sure I’ll find something in Paris. After all the shopping we went to see the inside of the Duomo. It is very similar to Notre Dame de Paris, very gothic and large stain glass windows. It’s different than the churches I saw in Rome, there wasn’t much art on the walls and ceiling. The true wonder of the church was in the masonry. They definitely wouldn’t build anything like this today. The Duomo was started in 1386, the only had their hands, hammers and chisels. No electricity! How did they do it. We were lucky enough to be able to go to the terraces too. The views were incredible, but man there were too many stairs! once at the top Ruth and I just sat and watched the other tourists. Now that we climbed all those stairs we had to get down… the stairs on the way down were this super narrow and winding, nearly fell over a couple times.

After all the shopping and church climbing we did the Duomo museum which was filled with really cool religious artifacts and art. We ended the day with pizza and pasta like true Italians. Though a short time, it was a great time!

Time and money well spent!
