TANTI AUGURI

Dear Caroline

In my 31 years I have never had a birthday that wasn’t in Toronto, or at home with family. I figured it would be a little lonely, maybe anti climactic, but actually it was lovely. No I did not have the big birthday dinner I normally have with family, but my friend Ruth took me out for a gelato before class. Then during class school staff came in singing with a little cupcake with a candle. It was so nice!

There was actually 3 people with the same birthday! That never happens, the 22nd is a pretty rare birthday but hey! More people to celebrate with. In Italy after you blow out the candle it’s tradition to break the candle or else your wish won’t come true. I kept the broken candle and I’ll add it to my scrapbook. I can’t wait to show you my scrapbook at Christmas. It’s getting so full!

For dinner instead of going out I decided to go to Mr. 100 tiramisu and get 4 tiramisus to do a taste test over the weekend. I got the classic, the kinder bueno, the baileys and cream and the snickers (my fave). I don’t know if you’ve been on TikTok but the taste tests are all there. The kinder bueno was surprisingly super good, the baileys was the most disappointing.

No gifts this year, which is great cause I have NO room in my luggage for anything. I barely have room for what I brought. Everyone called and wished my happy birthday. Best 31st birthday ever!
