6 OF LESLIEVILLE’S BEST BRUNCH SPOTS

Gare de L’Est $$$

Owned by the Ascari Hospitality Group this French style bistro rivals the Distillery’s Cluny Bistro. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays exclusively and reservations are a must as they fill up quickly. They have fresh morning pastries and rich golden french toast that they call “pain perdu” but my favourite is the Burger Frite with their house marie-rose sauce.

Bonjour Brioche $$

The Leslieville staple Bonjour Brioche is small and quaint but the food makes up for it. Cash only and no reservations you better come here early to get your table. They serve traditional breakfast fare like omelette and sandwiches, but the stand out is their pastries and cafe au lait (in a bowl!).

O’Somae $$$

Now I’ve never been inside O’Somae, but I’ve eaten their food more times than I can count. During the pandemic when we were all too afraid to do anything, O’Somae kept me fed. I would order their picnic boxes every other day and in 20 minutes it was delivered to my place. They have 8 different boxes to choose from, my favourites were the Farmer's breakfast, Avocado Toast, and the Duck Confit Waffles. They also have a great dine-in menu, but if it’s nice weather, get yourself a picnic box and sit in the park and enjoy.

Maple Leaf Tavern $$$

Located on Gerrard near the Gerrard Square Mall, its nondescript outside makes it easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a classic Canadian breakfast with a chic style, this is the place for you. Burgers, Eggs Benny, Waffles, it’s there and it is YUMMY! What they are known for is their thick cut maple bacon. When I say thick cut, I mean a good half inch thick slab of smoked bacon goodness.

Lady Marmalade $$

Another Leslieville staple, now in a new location on Broadview, there is never not a queue out the door and down the street. They do not take reservations and will not accept parties over 6 people. Last time I was there it was still cash only as well, so plan ahead. They’ve got the classics and some fun things too. They have one of the best selections of Eggs Benedict in the city, with inventive combinations like the B.A.B (Brie, Avocado, and Bacon) and the Mango Benny, and as always you can build your own perfect plate.

The Broadview Bistro + Bar $$$

What I love about the Bistro + Bar is how much natural light you get in the dining room with its massive windows. Breakfast is served everyday and Brunch on weekends. The menu is varied with a fusion twist. They have classics like Chicken and Waffles and Eggs Benedict and my favourite Shakshuka. With many vegan options and easy dietary accommodations, everyone will find something they enjoy.
