PIZZA AND THUNDERSTORMS
Dear Caroline
Summer is here! Well nearly, the locals tell me that this week’s 24-27°c weather is nothing in comparison to a Roman summer. Not sure how I will survive… especially without air conditioning.
Today I had my Pizza making class, at the same place as the pasta class. It was so hot and humid in there! It’s 26°C outside and the room where we had our class there a full wood burning oven going. Hot is an understatement! We made the dough, then dressed our pizzas with sauce and cheese. Not quite sure what happened with the instructor but he was definitely rushing through our class and forgot to give us vegetables and meats to put on our pizzas, so everyone just had a cheese pizza. The theatre of the instructor spinning out pizzas and cooking them was way more fun than the lesson itself. Pasta classes are far more hands on and fun. I decided to take my pizza home so I could beat the thunderstorms.
Thunderstorms are quite different in Rome than they are in Toronto or Lehi. Maybe it’s because we are so close to the sea, but here it’s more lightning than thunder or rain. The rain comes and goes and is usually a strong 10 minute down pour then dry for 2 hours. The lighting here is different too. In Toronto you’d be lucky if you saw any forks. It’s usually just cloud flashes, like a camera, here all it is is fork lightning, which is both super cool and super terrifying. I took some pictures, you can see a few forks.
If this is what I have to look forward to for summer, I think I’m going to love it here.
