AUF WIEDERSEHEN BERLIN!
This is it! My last moments in Berlin. Though it started a little rough, all in all it was a good time. I made some great friends, learned a bit of a new language, tried some new food, and much more! It was a great test run for the months to come.
EAST SIDE GALLERY & MARKTHALLES 9
These are my last few days in Berlin. I cannot believe 6 weeks went by so fast. Rough beginning but nice ending. I had three things left on my list to do: the East Side Gallery, Markthalles 9, and Always Together Cafe.
MAUER PARK
It’s my last Sunday in Berlin and everyone keeps talking about the fleemarket. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a fleemarket, I’ve been to craft shows, so I’m assuming it’s a lot like that but weekly. Emilie went with me, it was one of the few beautiful days in Berlin.
ALTE NATIONALEGALLERIE
Class ended early today and I had the whole afternoon free. I figured I’d go finish the museum island and check out the national gallery. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a true gallery. I’ve been to the ROM back in Toronto and there’s some paintings there, but I’ve never been to an actual gallery where the works of masters are on display.
FINALLY IN POTSDAM
We finally made it to Potsdam. It rains so much here that every Saturday we planned to go it was pouring rain. Since my roommate was leaving Monday we just bit the bullet and went to Potsdam rain or shine. And it was raining… all day.
LUNCH WITH FRIENDS
School is near Potsdamer Platz, which is a big transportation and shopping hub. There’s a mall and a whole underground market. One of them is called Manifesto Market. It’s so cool, it has 22 different restaurants with different themes, there’s something for everyone, kinda like Movenpick.
AND WE’RE BACK!
I’m all better now. Got a little cough but that’s nothing compared to what I experienced. Being sick away from home is not fun.
GERMAN HEALTHCARE
I’m sick! I don’t know how, but somewhere along the way I picked up a bacterial infection. It has attacked my tonsils and my throat. It’s horrible!
PRENZLAUER BERG
Things are finally starting to feel like home. I went on a city tour with my school, we walked around Prenzlauer Berg. It’s a very posh and trendy neighbourhood. It’s known for its colourful buildings. Chloe came along and we took a couple pictures. Chloe has been having a great time here in Berlin.
MUSEUMSINSEL BERLIN
After a hectic week of firsts, my friend and I decided we’d go to Museum Island. Berlin has so many museums and galleries, there’s something for everyone.
WILLKOMMEN IN BERLIN
First week done!
It didn’t start out quite as I had planned but I made it none the less. Which such a rough start I decided to give myself this week to just relax, get used to the routine and my surroundings.
13 MOVIES I WATCHED WITHOUT CONTEXT AND LOVED
Trailers are becoming more like short films than the visual amuse bouche they are meant to be. So every once in a while I’ll pick a film based on the poster alone.
WHAT A JOURNEY
Have you ever flown business? I haven’t, so for this trip, as a present to myself, I got myself a Premium Comfort seat. It’s one class below First Class but it might as well be called business. I can under stand why people pay the big bucks for this level of comfort. A dedicated menu…
OFF TO BERLIN!
It’s today! I’m flying off to Berlin, Germany. I’m writing this as I wait for boarding in the Austin Airport. Wonder Woman is here keeping me company while I got us some Starbucks. It is summer (in Toronto terms) right now in Austin, so we opted for the Peach Green Tea, very refreshing.
11 THINGS TO DO IN TORONTO AND 4 TO SKIP
Coming to Toronto and don’t know what to see? This is my guide to the best place in the city and those you can skip.
TORONTO: WHICH NEIGHBOURHOOD IS FOR YOU
With 90% of Canada’s population living less than 150 miles from the US border, it’s no surprise that Toronto accounts for nearly 8% of that, over 2.7 million people. When travelling outside of Toronto to other provinces or neighbouring cities or other countries saying “I’m from Toronto” will suffice.
HELLO AUSTIN!
Getting to Austin was no picnic. We were delayed by the snow storm in Toronto, then the plane had to de-ice, it was just not fun. What was meant to be a 3 hour flight turned into a 5 hour journey. So now that I’ve landed I thought I deserved a treat, and I wanted a cupcake. A red velvet cupcake to be exact.
Dear Caroline
It’s finally time! I’m headed to Europe! I’ve sold all my stuff, saved what I needed for Europe, and now I’m headed to Texas for a quick vacation before I fly off to Berlin.
THROUGH IT ALL
I thought picking my “favourite song” would be difficult because depending on my day, mood, whatever it changes from minute to minute. But surprisingly when I thought about it the first and only song that came to mind was Through It All by Charlie Puth.
DUNKIRK
This is a very big deal. I have been waiting 2 ½ years for this film. Ever since it was announced that Christopher Nolan would be doing a ‘war film’ I’ve been glued to my google alerts for any information. Soon we got a title, then the casting rumours began.
